ACD Engineering stops SPAM wave
100 SPAM e-mail per day. Tendency: rapidly rising. To free the internal David-Server from this needless and annoying e-mail flood ACD Engineering from Steffisburg, Switzerland now relies on NetCleanse. That way SPAM, viruses and other unwanted e-mails are intercepted before they can link needless resources at the David-Server.
20 Years of experience
1988 founded by Franz Rüegg the ACD Engineering AG disposes by now about 20 years of experience if it comes to services in the areas of engineering and project management. That the ACD Engineering AG has the necessary know-how at its disposal is again and again proved by their innovative and particularly individual solutions. For instance the project “mobri” (mobile bridge) which provides a completely new way to cross the water.
The main goal of the ACD Engineering AG is to conceive and actualize the placed orders fully with the approval of their customers. To reach this goal the smooth and fast communication with the customer plays a decisive role. That the medium e-mail is applied mainly is already understood.
Clean communication
Within the scope of the e-mail communication the ACD Engineering AG currently relies on a David V10-Server of Tobit Software. This one collected the e-mails up to now via the Grabbing Server at a provider which took care of the filtering of SPAM and viruses in advance. Since the SPAM quantity had risen rapidly in the last weeks Franz Rüegg was looking for an anti-SPAM and anti-virus solution which was independent of an e-mail server and could be employed locally.
The requirements for the system were defined clearly: the solution has to update itself automatically and furthermore it needs to provide a flexible SPAM scalability. After consulting the local Intradus partner, the NetAccess AG from Urtenen-Schönbühl, the decision in favour of NetCleanse was quickly made. NetCleanse does not only offer an automatic update of the SPAM and virus filters but also provides an unique flexible handling and setting of the included SPAM filter.
Virtual environment
The installation of NetCleanse takes place behind a firewall in a virtualized environment (XEN3.1 SLES 10) which is applied on an already existing HP Proliant DL380G5 with 8 GB RAM and 3 x 72 GB hard disk. 2 GB RAM have been allocated to the virtual NetCleanse machine to assure a smooth filtering also at a bigger e-mail quantity.
After about one hour effort for the installation of the virtualized environment as well as one hour effort for the installation and appliance of NetCleanse the new e-mail filter has already completely been implemented to the network of the ACD Engineering AG. Concluding only the Grabbing Server from David was disabled and the MX Record from the provider was changed to the NetCleanse server. Consequently the incoming e-mails do not arrive at the provider first but are directly accepted and examined on SPAM, viruses and other unwanted contents by NetCleanse before the clean e-mails are delivered to David.
That the application paid off quickly although there are only 4 employees at the ACD Engineering AG is proved by the current numbers. Franz Rüegg guesses that every employee saves 8 hours of valuable working time over the year. If you only consider the labour costs in comparison to the purchase of NetCleanse the decision already pays off.
