SPAM-free working at Holzbau Terhalle

The Holzbau Terhalle GmbH from Ahaus combines ever since the traditional handcraft of the carpenter and cabinet maker with the latest technologies. Only that way a high quality standard can be guaranteed to the national and international customers. To assure such a high quality standard also in the scope of e-mail communication to the customers and partners Terhalle now also rely on the latest technologies in this area – with NetCleanse!

Your Roof, Your House

Already since 1986 the company Holzbau Terhalle GmbH is active on the market and was able to prove a continuous growth year by year. By now 120 employees assure that the customer wishes are realized punctually and with the highest quality. The base for the success is not only the combination of the solid handcraft and the operation of the latest technologies. Also the innovative know-how as well as the continuing education and qualification of the employees provide that the Holzbau Terhalle even after 20 years in business still is the number one for the customers when it comes to interior work, timber frame construction or carpentry.

But not only in the production area the company relies on the latest technology. Also when it comes to the quick and smooth information exchange Terhalle sets high standards. For example the current David 10-Server from Tobit Software assures that every employee can send and receive e-mails at cyberspeed. Thanks to NetCleanse that will be now possible without the annoying SPAM and dangerous computer viruses.

Two become One

Until now two filtering systems assured SPAM and virus free e-mails at the Holzbau Terhalle GmbH. The WatchGuard-Firewall dealt with the e-mails and controlled at the gateway if these contains SPAM or virus typical characteristics. In the second step the Message Identification Services and the Virus Protection Services for David of Tobit Software were employed – they should detect what came through the gateway.

This very double filtering in fact provided optimal results but meant at the same time needless additional costs as well as a high administrative effort. For this reasons Chris Bendix, IT Director at Terhalle, started to look for a new anti-SPAM and anti-virus solution. The requirements were clear: The solution had to be cost-effective but at the same time it had to provide a high standard of customizing as well as the smallest administrative effort possible. Over the federation of commercial or industrial enterprises AIW he made contact with the Intradus GmbH which is distributing the solution NetCleanse among others.

Tested and Approved

“Already the first tests showed us that NetCleanse fully conforms the requested requirements for technical purposes” says Chris Bendix. “'Cause the system was ready for use after a short time and assures that SPAM and viruses are detected reliably at the gateway.”

The installation of NetCleanse was made after consulting by the supporting NetCleanse partner OCB Systemhaus from Ahaus on a dedicated HP-PC (Evo D310, P4 2.4 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB HD). After closing of the testing phase the switch to an IBM-Server (x3250 4364, Dual-Core Xeon 3050 mit 2.13 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 2 x 80 GB SAS HD). In the current constellation NetCleanse receives the incoming e-mails behind the firewall and filters them at the gateway on SPAM and viruses. Detected viruses are archived on the NetCleanse-Server. SPAM mails are marked in the subject, transmitted to David and there they are archived by allocation rules in user-based SPAM archives. To disburden the David-Server and the users in the long term it currently comes into consideration to archive the SPAM mails from a certain rating on the NetCleanse-Server too.

“Eventually we decided in favour of NetCleanse because we could save almost 1,400 Euro per year in comparison to the solutions we used hitherto” Bendix explains the motives for the transfer to NetCleanse. “Concurrently we were convinced by the filtering results and mainly by the miscellaneous possibilities in handling the filtered e-mails.”
